– I think that’s very nice. I know that the time of 45.94 has been ranked quite high. I’m of course pleased that the points table says that, says Karsten Warholm to NRK.

– Basically, I think it’s a good system for getting a fairer qualification for the championship, but comparing performances with each other across exercises is extremely difficult, Ingebrigtsen tells NRK.

RECORD: Jakob Ingebrigtsen has just set a European record for 1500 meters in Monaco, with a time of 3:26.72. He is still far from achieving the same score as Karsten Warholm.

If Ingebrigtsen is to achieve the same total as Warholm, he will have to run the fastest 1500 meters in the world, and by a good margin. Then the clock will have to stop at 3:23.39 seconds.

It is a world record by over two and a half seconds, and over three seconds faster than Ingebrigtsen’s personal best.

The 24-year-old boasts of his compatriot’s performance.

– That being said, that performance is an incredible many percent better than the previous world record. It’s a bit based on the world records, I think, as a starting point. If you improve it by many percentage points, it will be like that.

NRK’s athletics expert, Vebjørn Rodal, doesn’t think the athletes think too much about the points they achieve.

– It’s fair within each exercise. I think most athletes are more concerned with results, records and medals than they are with the points that the results give.

– Warholm’s jump of 45.94 is an absolutely enormous athletics result, but I don’t think it’s better than 3.23.39 in the 1500, which Jakob Ingebrigtsen must have to achieve the same score, says Rodal.
