Ski World Cup: Athletes’ hotel demands 15 million kroner

The World Ski Championships are in negotiations with creditors to agree on a solution to a surprising deficit after the championship.

Trondheim Municipality will hold a negotiation meeting with the Ski World Championships on Wednesday. An extraordinary meeting of the city council’s finance and organization committee has been called for Thursday with the Ski World Championships as the topic.

Now a claim from Scandic Lerkendal of NOK 15.37 million is registered as a payment note in the overview of debt collection cases.

– We are in a process and I can’t say much now, says CFO Snorre Moe at Scandic.

– Too weak

Trondheim Municipality, which is both a creditor and owner of the company, also received a new demand from the Ski World Cup on Monday, which is the background for the new meetings this week.

– The sum is completely new and it is a double-digit million amount that we disagree about, says Finance Councillor Kjetil Reinskou in Trondheim Municipality.

– Many of the cases that are emerging now show that financial management has been far too weak. Both the new requirement for the municipality and the requirement from Scandic show that a poor job has been done in terms of contracting, finances and structure, says Reinskou.

CEO of the World Cup company Åge Skinstad has been presented with the criticism and responds that all his focus is now on the creditor process.

Hope to avoid bankruptcy

Moe at Scandic says that they, like all other creditors, are in negotiations with the Ski World Championships about their claim.

The Ski World Cup aims to present a proposed solution to all creditors on July 2nd.

– Then we’ll see if all creditors agree to it. There may be a solution, or there may not be. As for the Ski World Cup, I hope they can find a solution so that they don’t have to be found insolvent and go bankrupt. It’s also in the creditors’ interest, says Moe.

– No, we are not doing anything more for now and will monitor the process going forward.

Unoccupied rooms

Moe joined the creditors’ committee in the process and says they have made a good start on the work. He does not know whether other creditors will proceed with their demands to try to bankrupt the company.

Attorney Gisvold told NRK after the creditors’ meeting last week that some of the demands they disagree with are “hotel rooms that have been used and not used and food that has been eaten and not eaten.”

Moe will not say how much of this bill is for hotel rooms and food that was ordered but has not been utilized.

– I don’t have a full overview of that, and I can’t go into it either. But all of this is governed by an agreement between the parties.

Scandic Lerkendal was set aside as a athletes’ hotel during the Ski World Championships.

– There were no external guests at this hotel. The entire hotel was booked by the Ski World Cup.

The hotel has 397 rooms. This means that they have invoiced around 3,000 kroner per room for hotel and food during the days the World Cup lasted.

CFO of Scandic Snorre Moe says they are in the process of negotiating the claim.

– Within the agreement

He believes they had a clear agreement with the Ski World Championships that they adhere to, without wanting to say anything about the specific points of agreement in this.

– Everything in this claim is within the agreement for a delivery to a hotel room and dining.

Do you think you’ll get 15 million?

Do you think you’ll get 15 million?

– I don’t want to answer that right now. It’s still early in the process.

Does not comment on individual claims

The World Ski Championships company’s lawyer Marius Gisvold will not confirm that the 15 million from Scandic is one of the demands the World Ski Championships disagrees with.

During the meeting with creditors last week, he said that there were three points of major disagreement and that one of them was hotels and dining.

– There are a good number of millions where people simply disagree about what should be invoiced. I can give some examples. In hotels and food, there are quite a few discrepancies. It goes for hotel rooms that are used and not used and food that is eaten and not eaten.

Attorney Marius Gisvold briefed creditors during a meeting last week.

– Excellent dialogue

In addition to Scandic’s claim of 15.37 million, a hotel bill from Hotel Brattøra of 792,685 and one from Quality Airport Hotel Værnes of 253,285 kroner have been sent to debt collection.

The debt collection cases that are now available total over NOK 28 million, but there is a delay of a few weeks in the registry. Scandic has the highest claim so far, while the lowest is NOK 335.

– We have an excellent dialogue with all creditors, regardless of whether their claims have been collected or not, says Gisvold.
