    We are not immune to “American conditions” in Norway. But vigilance is better than alarmism, say Norway’s leading democracy researchers.

    Sirianne Dahlum and Tore Wig, prominent academics and democracy experts from the University of Oslo, are keenly aware of the fragility of democratic systems. They argue that the threats to governance often come from within, and it is crucial to maintain vigilance against these dangers.

    The couple draws parallels to the growing trends observed in the United States, particularly within the MAGA movement, where distrust, polarization, and conspiracy theories have increasingly seeped into mainstream political dialogue. They caution that Norway, too, must remain alert to the potential for similar phenomena.
