Elverum produced a handball feat when group leader Porto was beaten 31-29 away in the Europa League on Tuesday. Elverum lost 25-29 at home to the Portuguese club in the previous round, and Porto were unbeaten before Tuesday’s game. Porto scored the first three goals, but Elverum was level at 5-5 before five minutes had been played. The visitors actually went straight into an 8-5 lead by scoring five goals in a row. In the final phase, Porto got several equalizing goals, but did not lead again after 23–22. From 27-27, Elverum moved to a lead the team did not relinquish. Led by six-goal scorer Peter Lukacs, Elverum limped to victory. Eirik Soløst, Dominik Mathé and Kevin Gulliksen scored five times each. Elverum meet Icelandic Fram home and away in the last two rounds and have good hopes of advancing to the next group stage.
