Vålerenga was unable to maintain an early 2-0 lead and had to settle for 2-2 against Austrian St. Pölten.
– It’s a team we have to beat. There is a disappointed group inside the dressing room. Today we were simply not good enough, says a disappointed Elise Thorsnes to NRK.
Olaug Tvedten, who scored one of Vålerenga’s goals, was also unhappy.
– I feel at times that we are losing momentum. Both goals are shitty goals, she believes.
NRK’s football expert Carl-Erik Torp understands little of the point loss.
– I can’t find a good answer, because here they were so much better than the opponent. Still, they managed to screw it up. Unintelligible to me. Almost unthinkable, Torp.
Karina Sævik started the ball with an early score. She put the ball in the net after eleven minutes played.
Tvedten also wanted to join the party, and scored the second goal of the game. It happened after a good shot from distance.
But the Austrians had to sign up. Despite a good VIF period, St. Pölten got a goal just before the break. It was Kess Elmore who set the reducer.
Early in the second half, the ball was shot into the arm of VIF centre-back Michaela Kovacs. The referee did nothing, but was later asked by VAR to look into the situation.
It was converted into a penalty kick, and captain Jennifer Klein put the ball safely into the net.
The home team had a number of opportunities, but they were unable to get a decisive score. Thus, an advancement in the Mesterligaen is in danger.
– We played a pretty good game. We had had margins against us. We don’t have time to be disappointed for so long. There will already be a cup final on Sunday. We still have the opportunity to progress in the Champions League.
Vålerenga will meet Rosenborg in the cup final at 16:00 on Sunday. The match is broadcast on NRK1.
