The Faroe Islands produced a rare handball bomb when Spain were beaten 27-25 in the women’s World Cup play-offs on Friday. It is the Faroe Islands’ first victory in the Women’s World Cup ever and they have every chance of progressing to the main round. The Faroe Islands lost 27-32 to Montenegro in their first game on Wednesday, but with two points against scoreless Paraguay on Sunday, they will advance and take the points from the Spain game with them. Rakul Wardum made 15 saves (39 per cent), while Pernille Brandenborg scored seven goals in as many finishes (including two penalties). (NTB)
