Sylvi Listhaug, Leader of the Progress Party, Critiques Støre Government’s Budget Maneuvering
On Saturday evening, Sylvi Listhaug, the leader of the Progress Party, took to Facebook to express her discontent with the Støre government’s management of its inaugural budget following the recent elections. Her assessment was striking: what was promised as “safe management” has devolved into what she describes as “total chaos.”
In her post, Listhaug stated bluntly, “The Støre government fails in the first round.”
During the election campaign, the Progress Party cautioned voters about entering into what they called a socialist experiment alongside the Labor Party, Center Party, SV, Red, and MDG, pledging instead to deliver “safe governance.” Now, Listhaug insists that the outcome has become painfully clear.
“Three months after the election, there is complete chaos in the Storting surrounding the Støre government’s first budget,” she remarked.
Listhaug underscored that the election represented a pivotal choice between the Progress Party’s vision of increased personal freedom and security, and a precarious socialist coalition reliant on its governing partners.
“The parties that were meant to govern Norway together are engaged in severe disputes. Already, two of them have pulled out of the budget negotiations, and it’s only been three months since the general election,” she noted.
Moving forward, the Progress Party plans to meticulously examine the budget agreement crafted by three parties that lack a majority in the Storting. Listhaug’s pointed critique signals a challenging road ahead for the current administration as it grapples with internal strife and public scrutiny.
