The restaurant Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn has reached the finals in the international category of “The National Fish and Chips Award 2026.” The winner will be announced in London on February 25th. The competition is considered one of the most prestigious in the UK in the seafood category, as fish and chips is one of the dishes the British are best known for offering.

The website husavik.com reports on the nomination, stating that to get this far in the competition, documentation on the origin and handling of raw materials, quality of work processes, cleanliness, and consistency in production is required. The restaurant opened in 2022 in Reykjahlíð and has been open during the summer season since then, with great success.

Icelandic fish has often played a major role in the competition, and in 2025, Seafood Iceland was one of its main sponsors. The winners received a trip to Iceland as a prize, which Business Iceland organized around Seamen’s Day. The trip included visits to Siglufjörður, Dalvík, and Hauganes before continuing to the Mývatn area and Möðrudalur. Among the scheduled activities was a visit to Fish & Chips Lake Mývatn. The trip then concluded in the Eastfjords, and you can read more about that trip here.
