Senegal played havoc with Botswana, winning 3-0 in the first pool match of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Bayern Munich striker Nicolas Jackson scored twice, while Cherif Ndiaye also got on the scoresheet at the stadium in the port city of Tangier, just a short boat ride from Spain’s south coast. Senegal are one of the favorites to go all the way in the tournament and dominated the match against Botswana. After several great chances, they got a hole in goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko after 39 minutes. Ismail Jakobs hit the ball to a free Jackson, who scored with his left foot. Jackson is playing this season on loan at Bayern from Chelsea. A quarter of an hour after the break, Senegal took advantage of a counterattack opportunity which Jackson eventually converted into a goal. Ndiaye settled the result in overtime. On 23 June, Senegal will face Norway in the second pool match in the World Cup in North America. France and either Iraq, Bolivia or Suriname are also in the group. (NTB)
