Newly promoted Sunderland held title-chasing Manchester City to a draw at home at the Stadium of Light. This means that the light blues from Manchester have a full four points up on league leader Arsenal. Sunderland are still in contention for the top five. The first half did not deliver all the world to fireworks. Admittedly, things were about to explode when Bernardo Silva blocked an Erling Braut Haaland header into the goal, but the assistant referee poured water on the fuse and marked for offside. Haaland himself was allowed to shoot unpressured from eleven meters towards the end of the 1st half, but the finish went straight to the goalkeeper. In the second half, City ruled most of the time. A mixture of weak finishes and good goalkeeper and defensive play by Sunderland prevented jubilation from the visitors. Then the match ended as it started: 0–0.
