Australia’s Brockhoff withdraws from snowboard cross due to injuries. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.
She was told by doctors that it would be too risky to continue her career due to extensive injuries.
– I am devastated to have to give up the dream of a fourth Olympics, Brockhoff wrote on Instagram according to Reuters.
The 33-year-old three-time Olympian had hoped to compete in her fourth Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina next month, but she has failed to recover from a complicated wrist fracture and a broken back.
Brockhoff suffered the back injury during a World Cup competition in Georgia last March, where she fractured her L1 vertebra.
– I have been training hard and rehabilitating for many months, and I know my body’s limits. With this, and more than 20 years of snowboarding behind me, I know in my heart that it is time to retire from competitive sports, she continues.
Brockhoff came fourth in snowboard cross during the Beijing Olympics four years ago. She has been on the podium 17 times in the World Cup.
The Olympics in Milan-Cortina start on Friday 6 February, and you can follow it via NRK’s channels.
