The doctors who operated on Lindsey Vonns now reveal that the superstar’s broken leg was complicated, but that the treatment has so far been successful.
It is the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that has obtained an interview with Dr. Stefano Zanarella on Friday.
– We did our duty. We knew that certain situations could arise and were prepared, says the doctor.
He further adds that the complex injury was handled by a team of experts – and that they are so far satisfied with the outcome.
Voss crashed very badly during the Olympic downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo last Sunday. She has since undergone three operations at a hospital in Treviso, Italy.
The 41-year-old has posted pictures from the hospital bed on social media. There she says she will undergo two more operations.
Vonn has also thanked the medical team that worked with her.
– The patient’s words fill us with pride, also because we were able to handle a delicate and long-term medical situation, says doctor Zanarella.
He says Vonn has been “an exemplary patient, as has the US team and the doctors of the US federation, who really give us energetic support.”
