The brothers Jakob, Henrik and Filip Ingebrigtsen have taken further action in the dispute over the right to the “Ingebrigtsen method” trademark.

The dispute has been going on since last autumn, when Gjert Ingebrigtsen submitted an application to the Norwegian Patent and Trademark Office for the trademark in question ahead of the World Athletics Championships. The running sons have subsequently claimed that they have a greater right to it than their father.

On Tuesday, TV 2 reports that the brothers have submitted evidence to the Norwegian Patent Board. These include a media analysis, which shows the use and media exposure of the term “Ingebrigtsen method”.

The brothers believe that all exposure comes from their sporting activities.

Neither party has wished to comment on the matter to the channel.

In the trial against Gjert Ingebrigtsen, the training program that made his son Jakob the world’s best middle-distance runner became a contentious topic. Gjert Ingebrigtsen reacted when it was claimed that the method was not his merit.

It is this scheme that he calls the Ingebrigtsen method, and which there is now a dispute over the ownership of.

The Ingebrigtsen brothers have also applied to the Norwegian Patent and Trademark Office for the right to the trademark “Team Ingebrigtsen”, which was the name of the TV series about the family that aired on NRK for several years. It was depublished ahead of the trial against the father this spring, at the request of the brothers.

That application will not be processed until the dispute over the “Ingebrigtsen method” is settled.
