Bodø/Glimt had few problems beating Brann in the match between two of the teams at the top of the Eliteserien.

Afterwards, it was a goal celebration that stole the attention.

Controversial celebration against the old club

Even before five minutes had passed, the home team had scored.

From just outside the penalty area, Ole Didrik Blomberg was relentless and knocked the ball into the nearest crossbar.

– It’s a fantastic goal by Blomberg. I almost feel sick, said sports commentator in Bergens Tidende, Anders Pamer, in the newspaper’s Ballspark commentary.

The reason is probably that Blomberg, a native of Bergen, joined the Bodø club from Brann before this season, but still chose to celebrate the goal uninhibitedly with what is called an “Arab” in gymnastics parlance, followed by a backward somersault.

– To end the discussion that has been going on in Bergen all week about whether or not he should celebrate if he scored: He did a triple somersault with flicks and everything. I feel sick to my stomach, former football agent Knut Høibraaten followed up on the same broadcast.

When NRK meets Blomberg after the match, he did not regret his choice:

– It was great to score. It’s starting to loosen up with goals for me. Then the question was whether I should celebrate or not, but I think that score was worth celebrating.

– You said you weren’t going to celebrate?

– You said you weren’t going to celebrate?

– It is possible, but it had to be celebrated, Blomberg tells NRK.

– I don’t think I’ve ever seen Blomberg so euphoric before. We never saw those emotions in Bergen. Damn, so provocative, said expert in Bergensavisen Jonas Grønner.

Breached promises

Ahead of the match, Blomberg spoke about what he would do if he scored.

– There probably won’t be any cheering from my side. It will be a rather quiet celebration, Blomberg told TV 2.

An “Arabian backflip” would not be categorized by many as a calm celebration. Ulrik Saltnes defends Blomberg’s choice of celebration after the match:

– If “Japh” or Felix hadn’t celebrated today, I think it would have been incredibly petty. I don’t think anyone who loves Brann was offended by Blomberg doing a backflip there.

Blomberg’s decision to go to Bodø/Glimt has been the subject of much debate in Bergen. Earlier this week, he spoke to Bergens Tidende about the election:

– For me it was about trying something new. I got to join a team that has done very well in Europe and in the league. It was something I wanted to be a part of.

CLUB CHANGE: After the transfer to Glimt this winter, Blomberg played his first significant matches in the Europa League against Twente.

Blomberg has already scored as many goals (4) for Glimt in the Eliteserien this season as he did for Brann last season.

Exploited opportunity

After Blomberg’s goal, Brann pressured the home team and wasted several great chances to equalize.

Instead of a score for the Bergen team, it was Bodø/Glimt and Kasper Høgh who could celebrate after just over half an hour of play.

First time, but that goal was overturned by VAR for offside.

Then Høgh appeared at the back post and put the ball in the net again, but this time the linesman waved it off for offside. The decision was overturned by VAR, sending the yellow shirts up 2-0.

DOUBLE CANCELLATION: Kasper Høgh is in despair here that his second goal was canceled. It was later converted into a goal.

After the break, the game turned and Glimt took over the field play. An unmarked Ulrik Saltnes increased the hosts’ lead to 3-0 with a header from five meters.

TV 2’s football expert Simen Stamsø Møller was clear throughout the second half that Glimt had taken over the game:

– There is only one team on the field. It is a team that intends to play football. And they intend to play good football. They want to score more goals and are pushing people, commented Møller.

THE MATCH SCORED: Ulrik Saltnes put what became the nail in the coffin, with 3-0.

After this, Glimt controlled the match, cruising to a 3-0 victory.

The match was the first after a three-week break in the Eliteserien.
