There was quite a lot at stake at the RB Arena in Leipzig tonight for Germany. The match against Slovakia was a pure battle for a direct place in the World Cup play-offs.

A loss for the Germans would send Slovakia directly to the World Cup, while Germany would have to make the trip to the playoffs.

    But it was never exciting.

Already after just 20 minutes, Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade sent in 1-0 after a beautiful cross from Joshua Kimmich. 2-0 came ten minutes later through Serge Gnabry.

Then Liverpool player Florian Wirtz took over the show. He served Leroy Sané twice with two great passes. It was 4-0 at half-time.

In the second half, Riedle Baku and Forzan Ouedraogo, in his national team debut, set the final score at 6–0. This allows the Germans to pack their bags and turn their noses at the USA, Mexico and Canada next summer.

So can the Netherlands, who mathematically secured first place in their group and WC place with a 4-0 win at home against Lithuania. Tijjani Reijnders, Cody Gakpo, Xavi Simons and Donyell Malen scored the goals.
