Norwegian Emma Stølen Godø really showed off her free-kick foot when Juventus beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 on Wednesday.
Those present in Madrid had to wait for close to 40 minutes before they got to see the goal celebration in Wednesday’s Champions League match.
Then the home team’s Amaiur Sarriegi sent the Spaniards into the lead.
However, the teams would go into the break with one score each. In overtime of the half, Juventus received a free kick near the home team’s 16-metre penalty area.
Norwegian Emma Stølen Godø was ready to take it. The Norwegian 25-year-old had fine-tuned his aim, and knocked the ball beautifully into the opposite cross.
– Luckily it was my turn today, Godø told ESPN after the match. She said that they change who takes the free kicks at Juventus – but that she hopes she gets to take the next one.
In the second half, Barbara Bonansea increased the lead for the guests from Turin.
The home team were never able to respond to Juventus’ turnaround, and thus had to see the three points go back to Italy.
Juventus stands with six points after the first three games in the league game in the Champions League. Atletico stands with one win and two losses.
