Alpinist Marta Bassino (29) is out for at least four months after breaking her leg in training. As a result, she misses the Olympics for the winter. Italy’s winter sports federation (Fisi) states on Thursday that Bassino has undergone surgery at a clinic in Milan, and that she will be back skiing in four to six months at the earliest. The Olympics in Milan and Cortina are held from 6 to 22 February, and that means that Bassino will be able to start skiing training at the earliest when the Winter Games are over. Bassino has won WC gold in super-G and she is among the world’s best in giant slalom. Normally, she would have been a gold candidate in the Olympics. (NTB)
