SV Open to Negotiations with Ap and Red-Green Parties

SV leader Kirsti Bergstø has confirmed to NRK that her party is prepared to enter negotiations with Ap and other red-green parties in the Storting.

In her statement, Bergstø emphasized that SV remains committed to the cause of withdrawing the oil fund from Israel and any companies implicated in occupation and war crimes. This important issue has been central to the party’s agenda.

During the recent election campaign, Bergstø made it clear that unless the government took steps to divest the oil fund from certain companies, SV would not engage in discussions with Ap regarding the government platform or the state budget post-election.

A key factor in SV’s shifting stance is the recent ceasefire. As Bergstø explained, another critical consideration is the proposal gaining traction in the Storting, which asserts the government’s obligation to uphold the Genocide Convention. This initiative aims to ensure that Norway does not find itself complicit in violations of international law in Palestine.

Bergstø shared her thoughts first with Aftenposten. Furthermore, Marthe Hammer has been designated to lead SV in the upcoming negotiations on the state budget in the Storting. Without SV at the negotiation table, the Støre government’s path to a majority becomes considerably less certain, as reported by the newspaper.
