Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has sharply criticized the European Union’s decision to designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, calling it a “significant strategic mistake.”
In a candid post on X, Araghchi expressed his concern, stating, “While several countries are striving to avert a full-scale war in the region, Europe appears to be fanning the flames.” He also highlighted that last year, European nations played a role in instigating new UN sanctions against Iran, exacerbating the situation.
Araghchi contends that the EU’s latest move only serves to heighten tensions further, especially as the United States has begun repositioning military assets in the Middle East.
In response to questions regarding looming concerns over US President Donald Trump’s potential plans for targeted strikes against Iran, EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas emphasized on Thursday afternoon that the region does not require another war.
