Leaving “Gutan”: Ready for Belgian top football

Jakob Napoleon Romsaas (21) leaves Eliteserien club Tromsø IL in favor of Jupiler Pro League club Royal Charleroi SC.

Manager Rik De Mil brings Romsaas to Belgian football. The 43-year-old has been a coach for the club since spring 2024.

TIL confirms this on its own website.

– Jakob joined us in the 2023 season and was an important contributor to a fantastic season. Now is the right time for Jakob to experience new things and move forward in his football career.

That’s what sports manager Lars Petter Andressen says to TIL.

The striker, who came from Skeid to Tromsø ahead of the 2023 season, now stands with 15 goals and nine assists in 69 games for “Gutan”.

The 21-year-old has one goal and two assists in eight games this season. His last game for Tromsø was at home against Vålerenga on May 31.

– I never imagined that I would have as good a time as I did in Tromsø. I have made fantastic friends and learned a lot both on and off the pitch. Nothing has been better than playing matches in front of Forza. They are Norway’s best supporters without a doubt, Romsaas himself tells TIL.

The youngster made his debut for the U21 national team as recently as March 24 this year, when Norway won 2–0 against the Czech Republic. He also made a brief appearance in the U21 national team’s recent 4–0 win against Wales. He continued with the U21 national team, and was on the field in the matches against both the Czech Republic and Wales.

Romsaas becomes the second Norwegian in the club. Vetle Dragsnes already plays in Charleroi.

Charleroi is currently in 10th place in the table. Romsaas will be teaming up with former Lillestrøm player Vetle Dragsnes in Belgium.

The 21-year-old is currently playing five games for Tromsø’s second team in the 3rd division.
