FRP Leader Sylvi Listhaug Warns of Chaos Amidst New Parliamentary Majority

Gardermoen – At the Progress Party’s autumn conference this past Saturday, Sylvi Listhaug delivered a vigorous address, stating that the new parliamentary majority will plunge Norway into chaos and signal a significant leftward shift in the nation’s politics.

Despite technical challenges that delayed her speech, the atmosphere was lively, with laughter and cheerful exchanges echoing through the hall. When Listhaug finally took the stage, she was greeted with rapturous applause from attendees. “Let’s show Norway together that this is just the beginning,” she declared, alluding to the FRP’s historic electoral gains. With 23.8 percent of the vote, the Progress Party now holds 47 seats in the Storting.

Listhaug pledged that the newly expanded FRP faction would work tirelessly to enhance freedom and bolster the financial wellbeing of its citizens.

A Marked Shift to the Left

Listhaug expressed concern over the direction of Norwegian politics, pointing out that the Labor Party is being pushed alternately by the Center Party and the “red triplets”—MDG, Rødt, and SV. “We are witnessing a leftward turn in Norwegian politics that is historically unprecedented,” she asserted.

Consistently referring to the new political coalition as the “comrades of chaos,” Listhaug believes that many citizens are growing restless with the ruling government. “After just two months under this chaotic leadership, it’s becoming clear that Norway needs a strong and robust FRP,” she stated, as she shifted the focus to the forthcoming state budget negotiations.

    Confronting Economic Concerns

Listhaug unequivocally stated that the FRP does not support the demands of MDG, SV, and Rødt regarding the Oil Fund’s investments. “They seem more interested in using the Oil Fund for moral posturing,” she criticized, emphasizing the need to protect this vital financial resource. “Our message to the government is clear: do not tamper with the Oil Fund.”

Drawing a stark comparison, she remarked on the Labor Party’s tactics during the election campaign, likening their approach to activities emanating from a “Troll Factory.” “After the election, it became evident that the Labor Party misled the public about ferry services, student aid, and small-scale power plants. Their reliance on dubious sources does little to improve their credibility,” she added, insisting that misinformation must be curtailed.

Calls for Integrity in Immigration Policy

In a segment of her speech advocating for stricter immigration policies, Listhaug called for the deportation of foreign criminals and the establishment of tougher integration criteria. “This is essential not only for law-abiding immigrants who contribute positively but also to address our pressing integration issues,” she noted.

She underscored the necessity of evaluating immigration from countries with poor integration outcomes. “If we are to reclaim our security, we must also confront our integration challenges head-on,” she stated firmly.

    Looking Forward with Optimism

As she concluded, Listhaug conveyed a sense of anticipation for the forthcoming leadership transition within the Conservative Party, expected in February. “I hope for effective cooperation between our two parties, which will pave the way for a new government by 2029,” she expressed, adding that she is particularly hopeful for a strategic recalibration within the Conservative Party, especially in climate policy.

“It’s time to discard symbolic climate measures in favor of realistic approaches,” Listhaug asserted, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience. The political landscape promises to remain dynamic as these developments unfold.
