The Online Newspaper:
As the dawn of a new school year approaches on Monday, a significant shift is felt across the nation. In many ways, the country is shaking off its summer slumber, resulting in a noticeable uptick in electricity consumption.
Compounding this awakening is the biting cold that has settled over much of the Nordic region and parts of Europe. The combination of frigid temperatures and brisk winds is sending electricity prices into a meteoric rise.
It doesn’t matter where you reside; the hike in electricity prices is felt nationwide, affecting every corner of the nation and impacting all countries trading on the Nordpool electricity exchange.
According to Europower, northern Norway is now grappling with the highest electricity costs seen in over two years.
Prices have surged sharply in the morning, beginning at approximately NOK 1.30 per kWh and skyrocketing to NOK 2.23 by 8 a.m. As the afternoon progresses, this trend continues, with rates peaking at just over NOK 3.30 per kWh by 5 p.m.
For customers under the Norgespris plan, the increase is tempered somewhat—these individuals benefit from a subsidy that covers about NOK 2.20 per kWh at its peak. However, business customers should brace themselves for steeper charges, as they are likely to face significantly higher costs.
