Storhamar was well on its way to victory over Hungarian Debrecen, but fell short and lost 28–30 in the handball championship.
With a win, the hammer team would have gained a four-point gap in the battle for a place in the cup game, but instead the team has been overtaken by Debrecen.
After six games played, Storhamar, Debrecen and Borussia Dortmund all have four points, while Buducnost Podgorica is last without a point. Only the bottom two in the table are eliminated when the finish line is set in February.
Storhamar got off to the best start on Sunday and had a three-goal lead at 7-4, four goals at 9-5. From 10–6, the visitors scored five times in a row and led for the first time at 10–11.
The teams then took turns leading, but Storhamar was ahead 16–15 at half-time.
Debrecen did not let themselves be shaken, and got up to date at 25-25 and scored the first goal of the half to make it 28-29 two minutes before the end. Storhamar failed to answer.
Storhamar’s next championship game next Saturday is away against a Györ team that sits at the top of the table without losing a point so far. (NTB)
