Strengthening Ties: Norway’s Collaborative Efforts with Morocco on Crime Prevention
Norwegian authorities are forging a promising relationship with Morocco, particularly in addressing issues involving 18 to 19 Norwegian nationals currently in the North African country. Nora Pedersen, a police attorney at Kripos, shared insights with Aftenposten about the progress being made. “We have engaged in several visits and are in the final stages of drafting a letter of intent, much like the agreements we have already established with Colombia and the United Arab Emirates,” she stated.
While this agreement does not guarantee the extradition of these individuals to Norway, it paves the way for potentially prosecuting them within Morocco’s legal framework.
The recent accord between Sweden and Morocco has sparked enthusiasm within Kripos. “From a Nordic viewpoint, it’s vital to focus on the key figures orchestrating activities from Morocco,” Pedersen emphasized.
Justice and Emergency Preparedness Minister Astri Aas-Hansen expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating, “I am pleased to see that the agreement appears to be coming to fruition.” She noted that the cooperative spirit between Morocco and Norway is currently strong, particularly in combatting transnational crime.
