Norway expresses cautious optimism regarding the proposed international stabilization force in Gaza, an integral component of the U.S. strategy for the region.
State Secretary Andreas Kravik from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs acknowledges the challenges ahead, noting the potential for setbacks. However, he remains hopeful about the initiative. “An international presence with soldiers on the ground could significantly contribute to maintaining a peaceful resolution, bolstered by the legitimacy that stems from regional support,” Kravik shared in an interview with NRK.
In contrast, both Israel and the United States have indicated a lack of interest in discussions surrounding a Palestinian state. Kravik emphasizes the importance of the Palestinian Authority (PA) reestablishing its presence in Gaza, allowing for self-governance among the Palestinians. He acknowledges that this will necessitate reforms within the PA, but believes it could foster greater understanding and collaboration between the PA and American officials—a role Norway is prepared to support.
