Halvor Egner Granerud (29) has to watch the Olympics on TV. The 29-year-old is not among the Norwegian men who will participate in the Olympics in Italy in February.
It became clear when the Olympiatoppen presented its last of several selections for the championship days in northern Italy on Monday.
There hop was one of the last branches to present its outlet. It has been for a couple of weeks already that Norway only got three quota places in men’s jumping. Granerud was unable to break into the top 25 in the ranking, which in that case would have secured Norway four quota places.
Granerud himself has been one of four athletes who have in practice fought for Norway’s quota places together with Marius Lindvik, Johann André Forfang and Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal.
In the final draw, the three places for the competitions in Predazzo in Val di Fiemme went to Sundal, Forfang and Lindvik. The three are placed as number 14, 16 and 18 in the World Cup combined after this weekend’s WC in ski flying. Granerud is in 21st place on the same overall list.
Granerud has been among Norway’s most accomplished jumpers in recent times, but he has not been able to do so in the Olympics. His last championship medals come from the WC in Planica in 2023. Then he was part of the teams that took silver in both the mixed team and in the team competition on the big hill. (NTB)
