The Norwegian Football Association will extend the dispensation that allows the use of pyro at matches for another two years. The fire service will discontinue the scheme.
Earlier in January, the NFF submitted an application to the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness and the Ministry of Culture and Equality.
There is an application for the scheme, which was implemented in the summer of 2024, to be extended until 2027.
The fire and rescue agency in Oslo is clear that the scheme should not be continued.
Nor do the fire services in Trøndelag or Rogaland want to continue the scheme, it appears in the appendices to the evaluation.
It is argued that pyrotechnics pose a risk, and that the scheme has led to more work for the fire service. It goes beyond other preventive tasks.
The NFF’s figures show, among other things, that the illegal use of pyro has decreased, and that there have been fewer stoppages in the game. A survey shows that 96 per cent of the men’s teams in the Eliteserien and 1st division want the scheme to continue.
