Russia’s ambassador to Norway is critical of the reactions of parts of the Norwegian sports community after Russian skiing recently won in the Sports Arbitration Court. Last week it was announced that the International Ski Federation (FIS) will now open the door to runners from Russia and Belarus. In the wake of that decision, the state news agency Ria Novosti has interviewed Russia’s ambassador to Norway, Nikolaj Kortsjunov, about how the reactions have been in Norway. – We see the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision to allow Russian athletes to compete as a new step towards a gradual restoration of justice and a return to the principles of sport, he begins. He then directs criticism at parts of the Norwegian sports environment. – At the same time, we regret having to state that the negative reaction from some representatives of the Norwegian sports community to the verdict only confirmed their anti-Russian attitude and unwillingness to end the confrontation in what was originally a completely non-political area, says Kortsjunov. The statements are also reproduced on the Russian Embassy’s X account. (NTB)
