Denis Shapovalov beat home hope Elias Ymer in a dramatic match Stockholm, Friday evening.
When Shapovalov delivered a good point, he put his finger behind his ear to get more cheers.
The crowd responded by booing him. Later, Shapovalov wanted a person removed from the stands.
– He shows his finger. Can I do that? Why is he allowed? the Canadian told the judge.
Pictures from the news agency TT’s photographer show that Shapovalov also pointed the finger back at the stands.
– It was not meant to hurt, but it seems that you are offended by everything I do. Even when I get medical help, you boo,” he said.
Along the way, Shapovalov had to get help after suffering back pain. He came back and won 6-1 in the deciding set. The fight lasted over two and a half hours.
It is not the first time Shapovalov has shown emotion in this way.
– I have seen Denis a few times, and it can be like this when he plays. He can get mad at the audience. I was prepared that it could get hot, said Ymer, quoted by TT.
On Saturday evening, Shapovalov will meet Casper Ruud in the semi-finals.
