Donald Trump is advocating for punitive tariffs on Norway and several other nations in response to what he references as the “Greenland issue.” In a lengthy post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump outlined his intentions.
He proposes a 10 percent tariff on all goods imported into the United States from these countries, set to take effect on February 1. Alongside Norway, the targeted nations include Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Finland.
“These countries, which are engaging in this very dangerous game, have initiated a level of risk that is neither tenable nor justifiable,” Trump declared, directing his remarks at Norway and its allies.
He emphasized the urgency of taking decisive action: “To protect global peace and security, it is essential that strong measures are implemented to resolve this potentially perilous situation swiftly and decisively.”
According to Trump, the tariffs will remain in place until the United States reaches an agreement to acquire Greenland. He further noted that if no agreement is secured by June 1, the tariff rate will escalate to 25 percent.
This latest announcement follows Trump’s earlier threats of punitive tariffs directed at those advocating for Greenland.
