Blake McLaughlin increased the score to 3-1 in the middle period, while Markus Modigs also scored before André Bjelland Strandborg scored a consolation goal for Stavanger on the eve.
The victory means that Vålerenga tops the elite series table, two points ahead of Storhamar and three ahead of Frisk Asker.
Storhamar won 4-1 away to Lillehammer after goals from Olle Liss, Colin Campbell, Kenneth Pappalardo Gulbrandsen and Jacob Berglund.
